11-year-old girl shot in head in Antioch apartment complex, police say

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KGO) -- An 11-year-old girl is in critical, but stable condition after she was shot in an apartment complex in Antioch Monday afternoon, police said.

First responders were called to the Delta View Apartments at about 12:30 p.m.

Antioch Police Lt. Bill Whitaker tells ABC7 News a family was driving to a shopping center from the complex when somebody shot the girl in the head.

"The vehicle was moving when it was shot - was driving out. The family was going to the store and the round went through the back of the car, through the headrest and she was sitting in the front passenger seat," said Lt. Whitaker.

The family drove to the shopping center where an officer helped the 11-year-old girl.

It appears she was in the vehicle and was an innocent bystander.

A witness saying they heard gunshots.

Investigators have not released a suspect description and they are asking for the public to share info or surveillance video from that area.
