Man accused of sexual assault of child in SF charged with felonies: DA

SAN FRANCISCO -- A 19-year-old man accused of the sexual battery of a child in a San Francisco public restroom has been charged with multiple felonies, the District Attorney's Office said Monday.

The suspect was charged with alleged aggravated kidnapping, forcible lewd acts upon a child, assault with the intent to commit a felony on a person under the age of 18, false imprisonment, sexual battery by restraint, and other crimes, prosecutors said.

The case stems from an attack on the evening of Oct. 23 at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park where a child at soccer practice reported being assaulted in a public bathroom.

A tip from a parent who "saw something" allowed police to narrow down to one suspect, said San Francisco Police Cmdr. Thomas Maguire during the briefing Friday announcing the arrest.

The suspect was tracked down in Pleasant Hill and placed under arrest Thursday after a week of investigation through interviewing witnesses and conducting DNA testing.

In addition to the felonies the suspect is charged with, he is also facing more allegations of inflicting bodily injury, using force or fear, and being a stranger to the alleged victim, according to prosecutors.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall of Justice.
