
LOS ANGELES -- Two people were killed and six others injured in a mass shooting in an area of downtown Los Angeles where several parties were happening overnight, authorities said.
The mass shooting happened around 1 a.m. Monday in the area of 14th Place and Griffith Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. There were reportedly multiple parties taking place in the area at that time.
LAPD officers were on patrol in area around 11 p.m. Sunday when they saw someone going into what they believe was an unauthorized party.
More than 50 people were said to be at that party, which officers then shut down and cleared out. One person was arrested for being in possession of a gun.
A few hours later, police returned to the scene for a shots fired and found eight people hit by gunfire.
Details about what exactly happened were limited, but a man died at the scene and a 52-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she later died.
Six others were injured in the shooting, two of them in critical condition. Police said some were transported to the hospital by ambulance and others self-transported. The wounded victims range in age from 26 to 62 years old.
Judner Derisso, the father of the man who was killed, identified his son as 29-year-old Gregory Derisso.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined. It's unclear if anybody has been arrested.
