2 arrested in Jan. murder of South Bay mother found in car: police

SUNNYALE, Calif. (KGO) -- Police have arrested two men in connection to the murder of Kembery Chirinos-Flores of Mountain View, who was found shot to death in Sunnyvale in early January.

Her family has been left to mourn her tragic murder in early January, with no arrests until now - two months later.

"I can only imagine the profound pain and grief Kembery's family is experiencing during this difficult time," Sunnyvale Chief of Public Safety Dan Pistor said. "Kembery was in the prime of her life. She was working two jobs to make ends meet and she was a loving mother of a five year old son. Today I'm pleased to announce that we've made two arrests in connection with this homicide."

A man from Hollister and one from Sunnyvale are now booked for murder charges.

Pistor says 24-year-old Chirinos-Flores was in her car near a mobile home community on Vienna Drive when she was shot multiple times by a shotgun.

She was later found dead later, but police could not find her suspected killers until recently.

"On Thursday, March 5, we conducted a coordinated operation which spanned two counties and involved multiple law enforcement agencies," Pistor said. "Both suspects were taken into custody by our detectives and the Sunnyvale swat team without incident."

Police say both suspects have a criminal history.

A man, said to have had a relationship with Chirinos-Flores, had a previous domestic violence charge in another relationship.

He and Chirinos-Flores shared a five-year-old son together, who is safe and in the care of the county.

The other suspect had outstanding warrants in New Jersey for murder.

Chirinos-Flores' family says they're thankful arrests have been made.

"Sunnyvale continues to be one of the safest cities in the nation," Pistor said. "Today's arrests represent an important step towards justice for Kembery and her family."

Chief Pistor says if you or someone you know is involved in domestic violence, contact local authorities.
