Man dead, 2 others injured after fishing boat crashes into rocks near Golden Gate Bridge: SFPD
SAN FRANCISCO -- A 35-year-old San Jose resident has been identified as the man who died Thursday morning after a fishing boat crashed and ran aground on rocks in San Francisco Bay near the Golden Gate Bridge.
Daniel Zhengyu Qin was one of three people aboard the vessel when a 911 caller reported a boat in distress under the bridge about 6:15 a.m., according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.
The 25-foot boat apparently struck rocks and capsized near Lime Point beside the bridge's north tower. All three people aboard suffered life-threatening injuries, and multiple agencies responded to help and provide medical aid.
The boaters were treated by paramedics before being transported to a hospital. Qin, however, died despite prolonged resuscitative efforts, the sheriff's office said.
The cause of the collision is under investigation and a forensic post mortem examination with routine toxicology testing is scheduled to be completed early next week, according to the sheriff's office.
Agencies that responded to the scene on Thursday morning included the U.S. Coast Guard, Southern Marin Fire Protection District Fireboat "Liberty", the San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit, the Sausalito Fire Department and the Marin sheriff's marine unit.
