4 VTA stations could be closed for 1-2 days due to electrical problems after overhead wire snapped

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (KGO) -- A bus bridge is in place Tuesday for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority riders after an overhead wire snapped, halting light rail service at four Orange Line stations.

VTA said service was suspended between Middlefield and Crossman stations, affecting the following stops: Middlefield, Bayshore/NASA, Moffett Park, Lockheed Martin, Borregas and Crossman.

According to VTA spokeswoman Sandra Bermudez, repairs are expected to take between 24 and 48 hours.

Bermudez said the overhead wire snapped at about 6 a.m., forcing the transit agency to stop light rail service in the area.

Officials were still investigating what caused the wire to break.

Bermudez said riders can continue their trips by using a bus bridge operating between the affected stations.

"There's still service so they can still go to their train stations. There's going to be a bus waiting for them, a VTA bus, it's called like a bus bridge. So we encourage them to plan ahead of time and take a little more time this morning to get to where they need to go," Bermudez said.

According to Bermudez, repairs are expected to take between 24 and 48 hours.
