
SONOMA, Calif. -- A woman died and another suffered serious injuries after they were hit by a vehicle in Sonoma on Tuesday evening, police said.
The collision was reported shortly before 7 p.m. in the 600 block of Broadway, which also serves as state Highway 12, according to the Sonoma Police Department.
First responders found two pedestrians, a 73-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene and a 74-year-old woman who was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition. The name of the woman who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the northbound vehicle that struck the women stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who do not suspect impairment or speed as factors in the collision.
The case is under investigation by Sonoma police via the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, which contracts with the city to provide law enforcement services. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call (707) 996-3602.
