Avengers Campus pays tribute to the creator behind some of Marvel's most iconic heroes
A new tribute at Disney California Adventure celebrates the artist Jack Kirby who helped shape the Marvel Universe.
Avengers Campus is celebrating the legacy of a creative force who helped shape the Marvel Universe.
Disney California Adventure Park unveiled a new plaque dedicated to influential comic book artist and storyteller Jack Kirby.
The ceremony was held on Kirby's birthday, August 28, and featured remarks from his granddaughter Jillian Kirby, Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Stephen Wacker and other creatives who helped bring Avengers Campus to life.
The Thing also joined the ceremony to honor the man who helped bring him to the page.
Known as "The King," Kirby helped create some of Marvel's most iconic heroes, including Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man, the Hulk and the Fantastic Four.
Kirby's influence went far beyond the page. The New York native drew inspiration from his own life and surroundings to help shape the characters and worlds that generations of fans continue to enjoy today.
The new plaque celebrates Kirby's lasting impact on the land and the heroes who inhabit it.
It reads:
"Avengers Campus owes much to your vision and storytelling.
'If you look at my characters, you will find me. No matter what kind of character you create or assume, a little of yourself must remain there.'
The characters you created populate this campus as a living tribute to you, Jack."
