HAYWARD, Calif. -- A suspect who barricaded himself in a building at BART's Hayward Maintenance Complex on Thursday morning has been taken into custody without injury, a spokesperson for the transit agency said.

BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said at about 6:40 a.m. that an "unstable individual" had trespassed into the maintenance facility and barricaded himself inside a building there while allegedly armed with a knife. The maintenance yard was safely evacuated with no injuries reported.

There was limited Green Line service between BART's Berryessa and Daly City stations because trains could not be dispatched from the Hayward facility during the police response, but all stations remained open during the standoff, Filippi said.

At about 9 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody without injury. His name was not immediately released. Filippi said BART was working to restore regular service following the police activity.
