BART power issues cause major delays, frustrations yet again

ORINDA, Calif. (KGO) -- There was Deja vu for BART commuters Wednesday morning as yet another technical issue along a busy line led to closures, delays and more frustration.

This outage impacted the Yellow line between Orinda and Concord. BART said there was a power loss issue involving the third rail between the impacted stations.

Dozens of people at the Walnut Creek BART station were redirected to wait in long lines for a bus bridge.

"We're not happy about this at all. It happens all the time to everyone," said Derius, a rider from Walnut Creek. "I mean, BART's got the nerve to hike up prices?"

"It's been great for the last five years, but for the last six, seven, eight months, it's not working," said another commuter at the station.

The outage happened just before 5 a.m. on Wednesday and service wasn't restored until about 6:40 a.m.

Many riders at East Bay stations had to scramble to find other ways to get to their destinations.

At the time of the outage, a fire was reported at a building housing BART electric equipment in Lafayette.

ABC7 asked BART to confirm if the fire was connected to the morning service outage and they said that it was under investigation.

ABC7 also asked BART for an interview Wednesday morning. They said they were waiting for more details on the outage and said that since service was restored before peak commute times, they did not plan to send a spokesperson out.
