Genova Deli closes Bay Area store, owners blame economy for downsize

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- Genova Delicatessen closed its last Walnut Creek location on Wednesday after 58 years of business in the city.

This follows the closure of the Treat Boulevard location just a few months ago.

According to our media partners at the East Bay Times, the owners blame the economy.

A few customers were waiting outside the store well before opening this morning for one final taste.

"I heard it was their last day today. I wanted to purchase something to say goodbye. Maybe see some of my old friends in there," said Dante Marchetti of Walnut Creek.

The deli's Napa location will remain open and Genova frozen raviolis, sold in many local supermarkets, will still be available.
