Crash causes car to drive into Bay Area home: video

NEWARK, Calif. -- Five people were hospitalized Sunday night in Newark after a two-car collision sent one vehicle into a nearby home, police said.

A sedan and an SUV collided about 10:35 p.m. at the corner of Cedar Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue. The crash propelled the sedan into a home in the 5000 block of Lafayette Avenue, officials said.

When Alameda County Fire Department crews arrived, they found one vehicle on fire in the middle of the street and a car that had crashed into a house, fire officials said.

The driver of the sedan and two passengers from the vehicles were hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries. One person inside the home was also hospitalized, Newark police said.

It's believed that alcohol factored into the crash, but the collision is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Traffic Sgt. Karl Fredstrom via email at karl.fredstrom@newarkca.gov or by phone at (510) 578-4974.
