Daughter of farmworker killed in Napa Co. DUI crash opens up

POPE VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- We are learning new details about one of the passengers who lost his life in the fatal Napa County crash on Sunday.

Relying on each other, Loreto Ricardo Hernandez's wife and daughter are processing the reality that he is gone.

"It pains me that I won't see him again. I pray he rests in peace and that God has him up there with him," said Maria Miguel Diego, Loreto's wife.

Maria is speaking for the first time about the moment she learned of the crash on social media and recognized the vehicle her husband was in. Loreto was one of six passengers who died in the fatal crash on Sunday in Napa County. He was a father of four and the sole breadwinner for his family.

"It has been very difficult in this moment. We appreciate everyone right now who is helping and being very supportive and saying prayers for my mom and the whole family. We need prayers for healing, and I have faith in God that he will keep guiding us," said Jasmin Ricardo, Loreto's daughter.

Maria said goodbye to her husband Loreto Sunday afternoon when he was picked by a group that was headed to work at a Napa vineyard overnight.

"It is really hard breaking because my mother's feels guilty for telling him to go to work that day when it was a Sunday, he should've taken the day off," said Jasmin Ricardo.

Maria said Loreto didn't know the other farmworkers in the vehicle, but he had worked with the 53-year-old driver in the past. The Napa County District Attorney has since charged the driver with six counts of murder. We also confirmed he had been prosecuted for three DUIs prior to the crash. Jasmin wishes she got to say goodbye to him on Sunday before he left for work

"What I miss the most now is seeing him play with my little brother and the good mornings, the calls, the messages, us going out to eat and the park and especially him bringing my favorite chips after work," said Jasmin Ricardo.

Memories that she is trying to hold on to while wearing her dad's clothes and helping her mom raise fund to bury him.

"Right now, I'm just wearing all his clothes but when he was still here with him, I could tell him I loved him and care for him," said Jasmin Ricardo. "It's really God keeping me together and my faith is God encouraging me to keep going for my father."

The family is hoping to bring Loreto's oldest son from Mexico to attend the funeral.

To help the family with funeral expenses, the family is asking the public to donate to this GoFundMe page.
