1 person dead, debris found after report of small plane crash near Mount Hamilton, authorities say

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- One person is confirmed dead as first responders were the scene Friday, investigating a possible small plane crash in the mountains east of San Jose near Mount Hamilton.

Crews arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire associated with a small plane crash around 2:30 p.m.

Multiple helicopters combed the area looking for the scene. One chopper landed and several firefighters hiked to an area that appeared to contain debris, but there was no obvious signs of fire.

This is happening in a remote steep mountainous area about 13 miles east of San Jose.
