LOS ANGELES -- Disney's "Zootopia 2" will cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office after only 17 days since its release.

The film has earned $986.1 million globally thus far ($232.7 million domestic and $753.4 million international), and it will become the second $1 billion title to reach this milestone this year, after Disney's "Lilo & Stitch." "Zootopia 2" will also reach the mark in the shortest amount of time among all animated Motion Picture Association (MPA) releases and all PG-rated films.

This will mark the studio's fifth billion-dollar title since 2013, behind "Frozen," "Frozen 2," "Moana 2" and "Zootopia."

During its Thanksgiving-weekend release, the film also shattered records, becoming the highest global animated opening of all time, earning $559.5 million in five days. This marks the biggest opening for any animated Disney film in the studio's history.

"Everyone at Disney Animation put their heart, soul and passion into this film to tell a story full of joy, imagination, and incredible thoughtfulness," said Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney Animation Studios. "This milestone means the world to us, because more than anything, it means audiences are coming to theaters for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, everyone together, from all walks of life around the world - and that is a Zootopia dream come true."

"Zootopia" and "Zootopia+" are streaming now on Disney+. "Zootopia 2" is available to watch in theaters.
