With Elle Fanning starring, "Predator: Badlands" delivers a bold new perspective on the classic monster film

LOS ANGELES -- It's meaner, deadlier, and this time the "Predator" franchise has a new protagonist — the Predator itself.
Elle Fanning stars as a Weyland-Yutani synthetic (basically, a really fancy robot) who teams up with a Predator on a hunt for the galaxy's deadliest creature. But on this planet teeming with lethal creatures, they quickly become the hunted.
On The Red Carpet caught up with the leads at the world premiere and got some insight on this fresh take of the franchise.
"This is the first time we actually see the Predator really emoting and being vulnerable," said Fanning.
"I feel like I can say I'm the first person, well not person, but robot to ever befriend a Predator, which is kind of cool."
The film's director, Dan Trachtenberg, who also helmed "Prey" and "Predator: Killer of Killers," was excited to have Fanning attached to the film.
"Once we cast Elle in the role as a synth, the idea of Elle Fanning strapped to the back of a predator was so exciting, and I really was empowered to make this crazy movie where the monster is the protagonist," he said.
Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who plays the Predator, said the story's appeal lies in its unexpected pairing.
"It makes it interesting when there are these two contrasting characters, a Yautja and an android, two extremely different personalities and upbringings, be forced to come together and go on a journey," he said.
"Predator: Badlands" premieres in theaters Nov. 7. "Prey" and "Predator: Killer of Killers" are streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of 20th Century Studios, Hulu, Disney+ and this ABC station.
