SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Mystery solved. We now know what the large purple and gold egg is that appeared in the center of Thrive City at Chase Center in San Francisco last week.
Violet, the raven, "hatched" and made her debut as the mascot for WNBA's newest team during Monday's halftime show between the Golden State Valkyries and the Connecticut Sun.

Violet, nicknamed "Vi," continues the franchise's Norse mythology theme.
In addition to Valhalla and Valkyries, ravens commonly appear in Norse mythology and symbolize knowledge, wisdom, and memory.

The team said in a press release, "Collecting information from her daily flights, Violet brings crucial knowledge back for the leaders of Ballhalla to use in battle. Ravens are considered guardians of good fortune, shape-shifting to trick and defeat any enemies of Ballhalla."
Ballhalla is the nickname for Chase Center during game days.
The Valkyries beat the Sun 74-57 on Monday.
Welcome, Violet!
