
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Longtime Bay Area sports announcer and talk show host Greg Papa is being treated for cancer.
Papa issued a statement on KNBR radio, where he hosts a daily talk show, and does the play by play for the 49ers.
The 62-year-old didn't specify the type of cancer he's being treated for, but in his statement, says he's looking forward to returning.
The 49ers issued a statement, saying they extend "our unwavering love and support to Greg Papa and his family following his recent cancer diagnosis. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the radio booth as the 'voice of the 49ers' whenever he is ready."
Papa began his local broadcasting career back in the 1980s as the voice of the Warriors. He's also broadcast for the A's, Giants and Raiders games.
