Jackie the Big Bear bald eagle honored with life-sized memorial wood sculpture
BIG BEAR, Calif. (KGO) -- A life-sized wood carving honoring Jackie, the beloved bald eagle from Big Bear that captured the hearts of viewers through a live nest camera, has been unveiled by a chainsaw sculptor.
Jackie died in August after becoming sick in July following a fight with young eagles near the lakeshore. She was known to many through a livestream of her nest, where she was often seen alongside her mate at the time, Shadow.

The artist used numerous photographs as references to capture Jackie's distinctive features.
"If people that know Jackie, especially from that side, will recognize, that's Jackie," park owner Mike Wayman said. "They like the idea that there is someplace that they can go and see something that they really had an attachment to."
The sculpture has been installed in a Big Bear North Shore park, where many of Jackie's fans left flowers, notes and photographs in her memory.
"I've been watching the nest for several years, and this is just my way of showing my love," Nancy Koch said.
