LOS ALTOS, Calif. -- An evacuation order due to a gas leak Monday morning in downtown Los Altos has been lifted except for one location that is still being ventilated by firefighters, authorities said.

The leak was reported about 10 a.m. in Parking Plaza North near First Street and evacuations were ordered for the area, according to Los Altos police.

Authorities said late Monday morning that PG&E had secured the leak and later updated with an advisory at 11:40 a.m. that evacuations were lifted for the area except for 199 First St.

All other areas are cleared for people to return, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

"We thank the businesses and community members in the area for their patience as this hazard was mitigated," the fire department said in a post on social media. "We're grateful there were no injuries or structures damaged resulting from the leak."

Authorities have not released information about what caused the gas leak.
