At least 5 dogs found abandoned throughout Fremont, police say

FREMONT, Calif. -- The Fremont Police Department is investigating who is responsible for abandoning at least five dogs around the city over a period of about three days, police said Saturday.

The dogs were found in different locations between Wednesday and Saturday, and were all similar breeds and in similar, unkempt conditions.

The dogs are a small breed and appeared in pictures to be similar to a Maltese.

Two were found and recovered near Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area and another remained missing in that area as of Saturday, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Two others were found at Irvington Park and another was found underneath a vehicle on Grimmer Boulevard.

All were estimated to be about four years old. The dogs were being cared for by the city's animal services and receiving medical attention.

Police believe the same person or people are responsible for the dogs showing up without identification because of the high number and similar circumstances.
