'Moana' star Auli'i Cravalho narrates a new National Geographic documentary on saving our oceans
'Expedition: Saving Our Seas' premieres Nov. 13
National Geographic is going to great depths to show the importance of caring for our oceans.
"Expedition: Saving Our Seas" is narrated by "Moana" star Auli'i Cravalho. It shows a group of Nat Geo Explorers as they investigate our global Ocean, from the seashore to the sea floor and pole to pole.
According to the official description, "Combining cutting-edge technology with the knowledge of coastal communities, they chase the discoveries and solutions needed to protect our Oceans at a critical moment."
Some of the Explorers featured include Oceanographer Dr. Andrew Thurber, biological oceanographer Dr. Kim Bernard and microbal oceanographer Dr. Allison Fong, who will look at the Southern Ocean.
Dr. Bernard joins marine ecologist Dr. Leigh Torres and Dr. Anya Brown to examine blue whales and coral in the Pacific Ocean.
Deep sea scientist Sheena Talma and her team go 10,000 feet below the Indian Ocean.
Marine ecologist Maiyai Taal Hocheimy will work with Dr. Angelo Bernardino to look at the dangers of rising seas near the Gambian coastline in the Atlantic Ocean.
Marine biogeochemist Dr. Kristina Brown heads to the Arctic Ocean to examine the Inuit community of Gjoa Haven, Nunavut.
And deep-ocean scientist Dr. Katy Croff Bell, founder of the Ocean Discovery League, will tie all the expeditions together.
"We've only seen about 0.001% of the deep Ocean, which covers about two-thirds of our planet," says Bell. "Just imagine what we're going to find in the other 99.999%."
