Mom struck by teen driver outside Gilroy elementary school dies days after dad, authorities say

GILROY, Calif. (KGO) -- The mother involved in the crash that killed a father outside an elementary school in Gilroy Friday morning has also died, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The couple was struck by a teen driver outside Las Animas Elementary.

The father died at the scene. The mother had been in the hospital since the accident.

The couple leaves behind at least two children.

Families in the neighborhood are now calling for safety changes.

Gilroy city councilmember Zach Hilton, who represents the neighborhood, is urging citizens to attend an upcoming council meeting on Feb. 4 to express their concerns.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the parent's 7-year-old twins and their family during this difficult time.
