SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A new Grocery Outlet has opened in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood, bringing expanded grocery options to the community.

Owner-operators Joel and Jacqueline Lanoie opened the store Aug. 13 at 350 Bay St. in the NorthPoint(e) Shopping Center. The opening coincides with Grocery Outlet's 80th anniversary, and Joel Lanoie said the location was a natural fit for the company.

"This San Francisco neighborhood was a natural fit because it's such a unique community with a lot of history, a lot of culture, and then not a lot of people know this, but Grocery Outlet was actually founded in San Francisco," he said.

Lanoie said the store arrives at a time when residents have had limited grocery shopping options in recent years.

"It's really exciting because the community's had a lack of options the last few years with grocery stores, and Grocery Outlet is coming in here, bringing high quality groceries at an extreme value that customers are just really excited about," Joel Lanoie said.

The retailer's Xtreme Value promise offers customers discounts of 30% to 60% off national brands every day. According to the company, the savings are made possible through partnerships with manufacturers and suppliers, including purchases of overstock inventory, products with packaging changes and seasonal items.

The store carries fresh produce delivered daily, as well as dairy and non-dairy products, specialty items and a wine selection featuring more than 50 varieties. Customers can also shop for NOSH products, which stands for Natural, Organic, Specialty and Healthy.

The Lanoies said they are particularly proud of the store's meat and seafood offerings.

Looking ahead, the owners said they hope the store becomes a gathering place for the neighborhood while providing affordable grocery options and supporting the local community.

"The impact that we hope to have is we really want to be a community hub for our neighbors, providing local jobs, supporting local organizations. Families can come in and know they can find an affordable meal," Jacqueline Lanoie said.

The new Grocery Outlet is located at 350 Bay St. in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood.
