Novato City Councilmember Mark Milberg dies at 65

NOVATO, Calif. -- City officials in Novato announced that City Councilmember Mark Milberg has died at 65.

Milberg, who was appointed to the council in 2021, served as mayor in 2024. Before serving on the council, Milberg was a member of the Novato Citizens Finance Advisory/Oversight Committee.

A cause of death was not available.

"Mark's warmth, friendship and tireless dedication to Novato touched countless lives," a Monday announcement from the city read. "His leadership, kindness and unwavering support for his community leave a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. On behalf of the City Council and all City staff, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones."

Information about a memorial service hasn't been announced but the city council meeting Tuesday night has been canceled.
