Novato police looking for hit-and-run driver who struck, injured 8-year-old riding bike

NOVATO, Calif. (KGO) -- The Novato Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding a driver who hit an 8-year-old child riding a bike and then left the scene on Friday.

Police say it happened around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Vineyard Road and Sutro Avenue.

They say an older woman driving a newer black Mercedes sedan struck the child, who sustained minor injuries. Officers say after the collision, the woman briefly stopped to check on the child before driving away westbound on Vineyard Road.

A passerby stopped to help the 8-year-old and call 9-1-1.

Police say, if you have surveillance video, witnessed the incident, or have any information about the vehicle/driver, contact the Novato Police Department at 415-897-4361 and reference case #NP26-1052.
