The CHP says the victim reported being shot in the abdomen on I-880 and has since been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The string of shootings Saturday morning began at about 2:15 a.m., when someone reported to 911 dispatchers that a person was shot in the 1900 block of Broadway. Paramedics responded and took the victim to a hospital, where they were in critical condition on Saturday morning, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The Oakland Police Officers Association told ABC7 in a statement, that bystander was trying to buy food at a store.

Just after 3 a.m., police received a notification from a ShotSpotter activation--which is a sensor that detects gunshot acoustics--in the 1700 block of San Pablo Avenue. That alert was followed by multiple calls to the police department reporting a shooting there. The victim was taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

About 15 minutes later, police responded to a shooting near 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr Way. Officers did not initially find a victim at the scene and were told by dispatchers that someone had arrived on their own to a hospital with gunshot wounds. Shortly after, while still investigating the area, they found a person nearby in the 500 block of 18th Street who had been shot.

Paramedics arrived and took the person to a hospital, where they died from their injuries.

Then, at 3:45 a.m., police were notified that two people had arrived at a local hospital with injuries after allegedly being shot in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr Way. Both were in stable condition as of Saturday morning, according to the Oakland Police Department.

In another homicide that was reported by the Oakland Police Department Saturday, a person was arrested Thursday at 2:45 p.m. in the 7800 block of Locust Street on several allegations, including murder and multiple firearm-related charges.

A spokesperson for the Oakland Police Department did not respond to a request for more information about that case on Saturday afternoon.

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee issued a statement in response to the shootings, writing:

"It's tragic moments like this morning's gun violence that left six shot and two dead that remind us we still have so much work to do. While we've seen a 30 percent decline in overall crime, every shooting and homicide is one too many, and we must continue our comprehensive public safety efforts so everyone is safe and feels safe. I've been in touch with OPD, which has not concluded these shootings were connected to First Friday celebrations. I will stay in contact with OPD as the investigation continues."
