FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- A robbery suspect was shot by a police officer in Fremont Saturday night, police said.

It happened near Alta Drive and Racine Avenue around 10 p.m.

Police say they were assisting in the arrest of four people suspected of home and car burglaries in other Bay Area cities.

They say there was a chase. The four suspects were trying to get away after their car was "disabled."

A short time later, one of the alleged suspects was shot by police.

That person remains hospitalized.

The other three people were arrested.
