Person killed in fiery car crash on Hwy 17 in Santa Cruz Mountains, CHP says

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- One person was killed in a crash late this Friday morning when a car caught fire on Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains, California Highway Patrol said.

It sparked flames in a small area of brush north of Vine Hill Road.

The initial cause of the crash is still unknown.

Only one northbound lane was open as they investigated and worked to clear the scene.

Drivers were told to expect delays through the area. Crews have since reopened all lanes.
