Runaway Emu Leads Ohio Deputies on Wild Chase

A runaway emu led deputies on a wild chase in Guernsey County, Ohio.

It happened on October 17, footage from the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office shows two deputies trying to corral the large bird with dog catcher poles.

"Heard they're aggressive," one deputy said. "I guess I'll fight him with a stick."

The entire encounter lasted about 45 minutes until the bird's owner showed up to retrieve the escaped emu, according to the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office.

"In all seriousness, the deputies handled the situation with skill and professionalism, proving they can tackle just about anything-whether it's a serious incident or a wayward emu," they said. "Just another day in law enforcement, where surprises are always on the horizon, and sometimes they have feathers! No Birds, bystanders, or deputies were harmed."
