Woman dies after being struck by vehicle in San Mateo: police

SAN MATEO, Calif. (KGO) -- A woman has died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle in San Mateo Friday morning, police said.

Police say at 10:30 a.m., they responded to reports of a single vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at 17th Avenue and S. El Camino Real.

First responders discovered a woman with critical injuries at the scene. She was transported to the hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly after.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was turning north from Bovet Road onto northbound South El Camino Real when the collision occurred within the north crosswalk of South El Camino Real at 17th Avenue.

Police have not released the identity of the victim or the driver.

Both lanes of South El Camino Real, as well as the westbound State Route 92 exit to South El Camino Real, were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
