Several injured, including child, after car crashes into SF church

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A car slammed into a church on Sunday in San Francisco injuring seven people, including a child, firefighters said.

No one was seriously hurt. But three people were taken to the hospital.

It happened at MiShalom Church on Nevada Street just before 2 p.m.

Authorities said the car plowed into the front door.

First responders say the victims inside the church were likely hit by debris, but not by the car.

"That vehicle was inside the building up to the door, from the hood to the door, and there was a bunch of debris inside the church. And at that time, there was no one under the car. There was no one near the car. No one was struck by the car," said Lt. Ken Smith with San Francisco Fire Department.

SFFD said the incident appears to be unintentional.

The driver stayed at the scene and spoke with police.

The Department of Building and Inspections has determined the building safe.
