Shooting on BART train approaching Oakland injures teen: officials

OAKLAND, Calif. -- BART Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on a northbound train approaching Fruitvale Station on Tuesday evening.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., a shooting occurred on board a train and a 15-year-old victim was taken to the hospital. According to BART, the victim is expected to survive and was in stable condition as of 9:15 p.m.

BART Police are actively searching for a suspect, they said.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect and victim were likely known to each other," a spokesperson for BART said.

The shooting caused minor delays to service and the train the shooting occurred on was taken out of service and moved to another location for evidence processing, according to BART.
