3 injured after small plane crashes in Sonoma during landing attempt

SONOMA, Calif. -- Three people were injured Wednesday afternoon after a small plane crashed while trying to land at Sonoma Valley Airport, authorities said.

Sonoma County sheriff's deputies, along with crews from the Schellville Fire Department and Sonoma Valley Fire District, responded at 4:19 p.m. to reports of the crash. First responders found a single-engine aircraft resting against a levee at the airport after it crashed during a landing attempt, the Sheriff's Office said.

According to deputies, the plane was carrying a pilot and two passengers. All three suffered injuries, and two were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of the injuries was not immediately revealed.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash, the Sheriff's Office said.
