Tarantulas coming to California as mating season begins

LOS ANGELES -- Tarantulas are on the move and they're coming to California.

In the coming weeks, tens of thousands of tarantulas will come crawling out of their burrows across the Southwest for their annual mating season. They will be out in California, Kansas, Texas and New Mexico.

Don't worry, they don't mean any harm.

Despite their reputation, their sting is usually mild, and they generally try to avoid contact with humans.
