SAN FRANCISCO -- Residents of San Francisco's northwest region experienced yet another power outage Sunday night after PG&E said electricity had to be shutoff in order to make an urgent repair.
Outage maps in the evening showed that over 11,000 customers had been without power in the Richmond District, the Presidio, and along Golden Gate Park. By 10:15 p.m., PG&E said the power had been restored.
The utility had already planned an outage beginning at 11 p.m. to switch its customers affected by last weekend's Eighth Street and Mission Street substation fire from generators back to grid power, which was supposed to leave thousands without electricity for approximately one hour, the utility said.
About 6,000 households were expected to lose power from the scheduled outage. The generators have been running since Dec. 21 and residents have complained about the noise.
"This action follows feedback from customers, and to improve conditions for those who live and work nearby," said a spokesperson for PG&E.

Customers were notified Sunday evening by text, phone and email, and PG&E said it coordinated its plans with city officials.
"Extensive repairs are ongoing, and we are developing a plan to return the system to full service in the coming days," said PG&E. "For now, the temporary generators at 24th Avenue and Balboa Street will remain at their current location to potentially assist with the final phase of restoration."
Meanwhile, neighbors plan on holding a rally Monday to call on PG&E to provide more compensation.
A hearing is planned for the first week of January.
