SAN FRANCISCO -- Rain is continuing Wednesday in the Bay Area. The National Weather Service forecast calls for up to 90 percent chances of rain throughout the day and slight chances of thunderstorms across the region.

We will be at a level 1 on the ABC7 Exclusive Storm Impact Scale all day Wednesday.

The system, which earlier produced gale-force conditions offshore, is expected to weaken through the day, allowing southerly winds to ease. Even so, showers will persist, and conditions are predicted to remain favorable for isolated thunderstorms.

Rainfall totals will be less than .50" and rain will exit before 3 a.m. Thursday.
Drivers should expect slick roads and areas of ponding. Any thunderstorm that develops could bring lightning, brief heavy downpours that may cause localized flooding, pea-sized hail and gusty, erratic winds, according to the NWS.

These storms will also bring Sierra snow, with up to 18" possible for the highest peaks.
Unsettled weather is expected to return Saturday and continue into next week.
