SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The day the skies across the Bay Area turned an apocalyptic Mars-like orange is a day many of us won't forget -- and it happened exactly five years ago.

If you thought the sky looked apocalyptic from the ground this morning, it's somehow even eerier from the sky.

On September 9, 2020, wildfires burning across Northern California filled Bay Area skies with a thick smoke that blocked out the sun - making daytime look like night.

While not many drivers were heading to work due to the COVID lockdowns, those who were kept their headlights on.
