ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Multiple crews are at the scene of a water main break in the city of Alameda on Sunday evening, the fire department said.

UPDATE: Crews repairing Alameda water main break that caused flooding and sinkholes

The water main broke near Webster Street and Buena Vista Avenue and has caused several sinkholes and localized flooding, according to the department. Webster Street is closed from Atlantic to Pacific avenues.

Fire crews from the city and county of Alameda are on the scene assisting, along with the East Bay Municipal Utilities District and public works.

People are asked to avoid the area.
