The Selena Gomez-produced Disney series returns with more magic, more guest stars and more heart.

LOS ANGELES -- Season two of "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place" is upping the ante for the Russo family!
The Selena Gomez-produced continuation series of Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place" returns with more magic, more guest stars and more heart.
After the dramatic season one finale, where *spoiler alert* Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko) discover that Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) isn't the only young wizard in the house, the competition to become the family wizard heats up.
"With new magic comes new problems. And there's the prophecy too, which starts to unfold in a much deeper and bigger level," David Henrie, executive producer and star of the series, told On The Red Carpet.
"Billie's very competitive and Roman's always the on-top-of-everything type of guy. And so they bump heads a lot," Brown explained.
Gomez, who starred in the original series as Alex Russo, returns both behind the scenes as an executive producer and to reprise her role as a guest star.
We asked Henrie what it meant to have her back in both capacities.
"Her heart is so in this show. She goes above and beyond. I mean, she's on marketing calls with 80 people, taking notes and giving ideas. And like, you know, EPs don't do that, but she does because she really cares. And I think you feel that authenticity on screen," he said.
Season two is jam-packed with guest stars, including new and returning Disney talent like "ZOMBIES 4" star Freya Skye, Harvey Guillén, Kirsten Vangsness, Bill Chott, Sean Whalen, Amanda Tepe, Recker Eans, Tobias Jelinek, Patrick Bristow and Eleanor Sweeney.
Henrie raved about Skye's appearance on the show.
"She was so talented. She's never done a sitcom before, but she came in here, and the girl crushed it. I'm like, 'How is it possible to be this talented?'"
And with such an exciting season, the cast is promising a dramatic finale!
"I remember when the whole cast read the season finale together out loud in front of the network and everyone on the crew. There were audible choking and crying noises, because it was such a heartfelt ending," Henrie said.
Brown admits that it was she who was crying!
"Alkaio had actually looked over to me, who plays Roman, and he was like, 'Are you crying?' And I was like, 'Yes, I'm crying. This is heavy.' I did not think that they were gonna go there with a Disney comedy series."
