CORONA, Calif. (KABC) -- Two teenage girls have been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to carry out a school shooting at Corona High School, according to police.
Authorities said the investigation began Oct. 6 after the FBI alerted the Corona Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff's Office to social media threats targeting the school.
Detectives arrested a 15-year-old female student who attends Corona High School. After searching several homes in Riverside County, California, going through electronic devices and messages, detectives identified and arrested another 15-year-old girl who attends Norco High School.

According to Corona police, search warrants uncovered evidence that the two teens had spent several months researching school shootings and discussing how they could potentially carry out an attack at Corona High School.
The investigation also revealed the pair discussed how they could obtain weapons to carry out the attack, police said.
Authorities added that no weapons were found during the home searches. Both teens remain in custody on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
Further details, including when the alleged attack was supposed to happen, were not immediately known. The investigation remains ongoing.
The fact that both suspects are girls is rare. Research cited by NPR found that only about 3% of school shootings involve female perpetrators.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Corona PD Det. Edwards at 951-279-3656 or george.edwards@coronaca.gov.
