Nick Reiner, who is facing murder charges in the deaths of parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, will be back in court next year as there is still no decision on whether transcripts from his grand jury indictment will be made public or not.

Reiner appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday where attorneys discussed the matter.

Reiner and his siblings have been fighting to keep the transcripts sealed, arguing their disclosure to the public would cause additional trauma to the family and undermine his right to a fair trial.

Media organizations oppose the seal.

The next hearing on the matter will be Jan. 13, 2027. Reiner's defense is expected to submit data on how widespread the case has been covered by the media and how it can affect his right to a fair trial.

Last month, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced his office would not seek the death penalty against Reiner.

The 33-year-old has been held without bail on two first-degree murder charges since December.

If convicted, Nick Reiner faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hochman has said the trial will likely not take place until 2027. Still, Hochman said his office is ready to fight to keep Nick Reiner behind bars for the rest of his life.

"At any point in which the defense is ready to proceed, the people are ready to proceed," Hochman said.

Film director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner were stabbed to death in their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles on Dec. 14. Nick Reiner, their youngest son, was arrested within hours and charged two days later.
