Passenger gives birth in Waymo on way to SF hospital, company says

This gives a new meaning to driverless delivery.

A Waymo passenger who was heading to the hospital to have a baby ended up delivering that child inside one of the driverless cars, according to a company spokesperson.

Waymo says the passenger was in labor Monday night during a ride to UCSF Medical Center when the car's remote Rider Support team detected "unusual activity."

They called to check on the rider, discovered what was happening, and contacted 911 while the car continued to head to the hospital.

The parent and newborn made it to the hospital safely.

Waymo released a statement saying, "This is not the first baby to be born inside a Waymo vehicle. While it's a rare occurrence... some of our newest riders just can't wait to experience their first ride."
