Woman recognizes man after shooting, killing masked intruder in Philadelphia: Police
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting in the city's Frankford section Wednesday morning.
Officials say a young woman shot and killed a masked man who had allegedly broken into her apartment.
The shooting happened around 5 a.m. in the 4600-block of Castor Avenue, police said.
Police found a 29-year-old man who had been shot in the head. He died at the scene.
The woman told police she heard someone breaking windows to the apartment and encountered the man inside her apartment.
"It appears this individual broke the window, and was able to reach in and open the door, and then entered this woman's apartment and that's when the shot - or shots - were fired," said Chief Inspector Scott Small with the Philadelphia Police Department.
Investigators say that once they removed the mask from the man, the woman recognized him, telling police they had a prior relationship. It is unclear what type of relationship those involved have.

Small said it does not appear the man had any weapons on him.
Officials say the woman is cooperating with police and has turned a semi-automatic handgun over to officers.
The shooter is being interviewed by homicide detectives.
Police are also reviewing surveillance footage from near the scene.
