A spokesperson put the crisis into perspective, explaining that while every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, the Red Cross only has a 1-day supply to work with.
"I feel like if sharing my story can help one other person, then it's important, then I feel like it's my duty to use this platform that I have to help others."
Many see the FDA blood donation policy as discriminatory against the LGBTQ community.
As Texas faces severe weather, the Red Cross needs blood donations more than usual.
