ATLANTA -- At Atlanta Sports Recovery, owner Johnny Bouchard has built a space focused on healing, performance and care.
"What I love about what I do is seeing somebody come in that looks a little hopeless," says Bouchard.
"But then 3 or 4 weeks later, they're deadlifting, sprinting or doing something that's beyond what they thought they'd never be able to do again!"
Bouchard grew up in love with sports, enjoying basketball, golf, tennis, baseball and running.
"I've always been very good at enjoying suffering," he jokes.
His perspective changed during an internship with a professional football team, where he saw players recover from major injuries in just a few days thanks to top-tier care.
"Normal people don't have that access. And I thought 'How can I take the approach used to treat a professional athlete and bring it to the rest of us?' "
That question became the foundation of Atlanta Sports Recovery, now a destination for athletes at every stage.
But starting as a cash-based sports medicine practice wasn't easy. Many insurers were hesitant to take on the risk, leaving Bouchard searching for coverage. That's when Hiscox Insurance stepped in.
"They really saved the day," he says. "We do things that help the human body heal, and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing this work unless we were protected by a great insurer. Hiscox Insurance truly is the best out there, we can't imagine going anywhere else!"
For patients like Ryan Smyth, the impact has been life-changing. After back surgery in 2021, Smyth turned to Bouchard for help.
"I still had more work to do to get back to playing golf, running and playing with my kids," Smyth says. "Johnny helped me return to the level of activity I wanted."
Runner Katie Anaya shared a similar story.
"I came in to see Johnny years ago when I was training for a marathon. I had so many injuries, but he helped me get on a training plan. When I got through marathons, I would say that I survived on duct tape, prayers and Atlanta Sports Recovery!"
For Bouchard, it all comes down to movement.
"The ability to move is one of the most important things in the world," he says. "I want to be that place that you go when you feel like you can't because we'll get you back to it."
