CityTeam Chester delivers food and presents to the underserved families

Aston, Pennsylvania -- A warehouse in Aston, Pennsylvania served as the headquarters of the big December Delivery Day, a widespread volunteer driven effort to get food, toys, groceries and holiday cheer to 1800 Delaware County families this season.

The nonprofit CityTeam Chester organized the big day with the help of close to 400 volunteer packers, loaders, staff, and drivers.

They loaded up donated bikes, turkeys and groceries all morning long. The drivers will then deliver these donated items to families all across the county.

Richona McKnight is the Executive Director at CityTeam Chester. She says the much needed items all come from the community.

"God is the reason we're able to do this work. Because every single year we're thinking, are we going to have enough? He provides every single year. When you show love and when you show kindness, you change the community. And when we come together and bring all of our efforts together, we really have an impact. Just to let someone who might feel undervalued or unseen recognize that they're not in this alone."

The line of cars lining up this morning was around the block and down the street. For many volunteers, the act of giving is just as rewarding as the receiving!

For Fran and Erica Falvey of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, it's their favorite part of Christmas. "It's a tradition," Erica said while her car was getting loaded up with deliveries. "It strengthens my relationship with my dad and it's meaningful for me. We're so excited to give back. We're thankful for CityTeam and proud of our community!"

They are always in need of donated items and volunteers to help drive this giving effort.

Richona says, "We distribute items like diapers, wipes, formula, fresh produce and all of these necessary items that people who might be struggling could use. And se we need a lot of volunteers to doth ta.t We have a staff of only 14 people. So if anyone is interested in volunteering with us or making a financial contribution they can do that by coming into our building in Chester or by going onto our website."
