Volunteers turning old bikes into new beginnings

HOUSTON, Texas -- Bill Mintz asks, "Do you remember the first time you rode a bike?" To him, he remembers freedom.

That is what he has been providing for ten years as the founder of Freewheels Houston. The nonprofit collects donated bicycles, volunteers repair them, and works with local organizations to ensure the bikes are distributed to those who need them the most.

"We give bikes to refugees, veterans who emerged from homelessness, and to some young people in the Alief school district," Mintz said.

"For these people, it means making a living, getting groceries, or whatever they need," Volunteer Audrey Angel shared.
