Nonprofit shows NICU families that 'Today is A Good Day'

Flourtown, Pa -- When it comes to families with children in the NICU, this nonprofit is showcasing how every day with them is special.

"Today is a Good Day" began with Martha Sharkey and Paul Sharkey.

Martha was pregnant with twins, one who survived, and one who sadly passed away.

This became the catalyst to the Sharkey family's nonprofit, which officially formed in 2014.

Since then, their team has provided support to families battling similar struggles.

One of their main resources are their care packages, which provide families with activities and resources during their stay.

"Started with care packages. Added vital needs support funding where we help families with food and fuel, transportation to and from the hospital. We then created a podcast...currently serve families in 23 hospitals...primarily located here in the tri state region," said Martha Sharkey.

"The reason we are where we are today is because of the community that we've been able to build of not only NICU families, but so many volunteers... who have come together who believe so strongly in this mission...really humbling to both my husband and myself," she continued.

"I can't imagine care in the NICU without "Today Is A Good Day." Their journey in the NICU turned to something that was really inspiring for not only the people that take care of babies here, but also other families," said Dr. Eddie Chang, Chief of Neonatology at Jefferson Abington Hospital.
