2 critically injured in East Palo Alto multi-vehicle crash that hurt 5: Sheriff's Office

EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Five people are injured, including two with life-threatening injuries, in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in East Palo Alto, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 8:20 a.m. at the intersection of Bay Road and University Avenue. SKY7 footage showed three damaged vehicles at the scene, including a SamTrans vehicle. One red vehicle appeared to have significant front-end damage, with debris scattered around the intersection.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said five people were injured in the collision. Two adults suffered life-threatening injuries.

SKY7 video also showed the SamTrans vehicle with airbags destroyed near a damaged fence, which it appears to have struck during the crash.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The Sheriff's Office advised drivers to avoid the intersection of Bay Road and University Avenue until further notice and to expect traffic delays in the area.

Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
